FAQ:

Q: What is online therapy?
A: Online therapy is any form of therapy that is done while sitting in front of a computer. This is usually done in your home while their therapist is in their home or office.

Q: Are services discounted because they are online?
A: They are not. The amount of work that goes into tele-therapy can sometimes exceed the amount of work for an in-person session. You save on travel fees if you are out of the area, but the therapist still puts in the same, if not more time and effort into planning for the session and their expertise remains the same of course.
Q: What kinds of activities would we do online?
A: That depends on the cognitive level of the client and their interests. We have interactive games that we use, video modeling for social situations, we can also utilize the iPad with apps that allow us to mirror what we see with the patient or student. Some activities the patient can control the screen and become very interactive. We utilize many modalities to make therapy fun, engaging, and functional!

Q: Who is online therapy best for?
A: The following types of people can benefit from tele-therapy:
  • Anyone who cannot leave the house and does not want anyone to come in due to a compromised immune system.
  • Someone who is able to navigate a computer well enough to open emails and click links.
    • Parents or caregivers can assist with this, but depending on the cognitive abilities of the person receiving the therapy, that person may need to stay with them during the therapy to keep them on task, from walking away, from closing the computer, etc.
Q: How successful have you been with online therapy in the past?
A; I will say this. If the cognitive abilities are there and the patient or student is motivated, tele-therapy is sometimes even better than in-person. Why? We have so many options now that I am able to quickly pull up information, pull up examples, highlight what needs to be looked at. We are seeing progress a little faster.

It has forced us to get creative and being creative always brings out the best in a therapist!

If the patient needs extensive help using technology, is very very young, has limited eye sight, difficulty hearing in-person, tele-therapy may be difficult.

If the person has that much difficulty, I would recommend trying our consultative services to see how we can help you best to help them!
Q: What equipment do I need for online therapy?
A: You need an internet-ready device equipped with a camera and a stable internet connection. That's it!

Q: Does my insurance provider cover teletherapy?

What Our Clients Are Saying

I’ve had such a wonderful experience with Cove Speech Language And Feeding Therapy. They helped my son go from not wanting to put any solid foods even close to his mouth, to trying all sorts of new foods in just a few months. The therapists worked with him on his sensory issues, on self-feeding, and on learning to chew. They were patient and friendly, and through play, made it a very enjoyable experience for my son. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs speech and/or feeding therapy. I will never forget how much they helped my son and I am forever grateful to them." -Sheena R.
